Brief History
The College Library at Basilan State College (BaSC) was established to pursue educated, academic, and cultural activities through a broad range of subjects, such as literature, history, etc. The College Library offers to its clientele a collection of books, magazines, newspapers, journals, and other sources. These materials help in giving information to the needs of the clientele.
The College Library, thus, services the clientele in many ways. One way is rendering quality services for the benefits of the clientele.
Show moreThe Basilan National Agro-Industrial College in Sta. Clara. Lamitan was converted to Basilan State College by virtue of Presidential Decree 1943 signed on June 27, 1984.
The First President, Dr. San Luis decided that the main campus will be in Sumagdang, Isabela City. New buildings were constructed in Sumagdang.
The Library in Sta. Clara campus has been transferred to Division Office DECS, temporarily and occupies part of the Conference room, and at the same time the graduate school holds classes on weekends
Upon the completion of the school buildings in Sumagdang, the library occupies one classroom to house the library collections. Increased of library collections and student’s population, the library cannot accommodate the number of clientele and library resources.
The Library again was moved to the left wing of the main building which is equivalent to five classrooms. Later years, Dr. San Luis envisioned having a separate library building. She worked for the construction of the two storey building, the library and museum.
In 1994, the library and museum was built. The library at present occupies the second floor of the storey building with a collection of 6419 volumes.
The College Library of Basilan State College offers library services to the bonafide clientele include the faculty and staff, students, alumni, visitors and other members of the community as well as students from other schools.
The College Library serves the clientele in search for information and details through printed and non-printed resources. It answers the needs and demands of the library users based on the existing collections of resources. It also creates a conductive atmosphere to research and study for the users. Hence, it makes the library a center for learning and intellectual growth through quality service with the assistance of the personnel observing the ethical standard in librarianship.
There are a number of services offered by the college library to the clientele. Reference and Information services are offered. These include the Information Services that provide answer to specific questions, Library Instructions that provide orientation to new students and transferees about library policies, borrowing procedures services, and the use of library materials, Reader’s Advisory Services that provide guidance to clientele in the choice of reading materials, and Term Paper Assistance that provides assistance in the formation of research paper.
The library also offers Circulation Services like Book Lending Services wherein circulation books are available for check out at the circulation section. Another services offered by the library are the Periodical Services where Current Awareness Services provide current information thru bulletin board display and current materials such as newspapers and journals. Lastly, the library deals with Reading Room Services, Shelving and Stock Services, and Info-tech Services that provide access to Starbooks users.
THE COLLEGE LIBRARY OF BASILAN STATE COLLEGE ENVISIONS TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY LIBRARY RESOURCES AND TO RENDER SERVICES TO A QUALITY INFORMATION FOR THE BENEFITS OF ALL ITS CLIENTELE.
TO SUPPORT THE TOTAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OF THE COLLEGE AND TO HAVE A BETTER SERVICE THROUGH ORGANIZED AND RELEVANT INFORMATION.

- TO GUIDE THE CLIENTELE IN THEIR CHOICE OF BOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS OF LEARNING BOTH FOR PERSONAL AND CURRICULAR PURPOSES.
