BaSC Hosted the Basilan ASEAN Youth Forum 2017 (Muslima C. Alih) As part of celebrating the 50 years of ASEAN with the theme of “Partnering for change, engaging the world”, the Basilan ASEAN Youth held an Open Forum last July 14, 2017 at the Basilan State College Amphitheater, together with the 200 participants coming from the different schools in Isabela City Basilan. Mr. Roderick D. Trio an Alumnus of the Ship of Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) and the present Dean of Student Affairs at Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology was the first speaker to explain the history as to why is ASEAN got established and how the Philippines becomes one of the countries in ASEAN. Other speakers including Engr. Joseph Lou Sta. Teresa, alumni of South East Asian and Japan Youth Program, Emmanuel S. Quizo, Local Youth development Officer of Isabela City and the Vice Chairman of Mindanao Youth peace Congress, Alex M. Molas, Youth Development Coordinator of USAID MIDEY Program of Isabela City, JV A. Regalado, Project Technical Staff III and Grants Coordination Officer, and Miss Mary Claire Geduquio an alumnus of YSEALI and an instructor of Basilan State College shared to the participants about their amazing and unforgettable experiences as a Filipino youth ambassadors in the other countries. Concerns were raised during the open forum for those participants who wanted to clarify regarding the allowance of their scholarships, and also about the free tuition that the public school was offering. After the ASEAN talk show, there was a presentation led by the ASEAN Youth Ambassadors wearing their magnificent traditional costume presenting their respective assigned countries. After the presentation, it was Mr. Malaysia of Isabela City National High School and Miss Philippines of Begang National High School who won the best in costume category. Also, there were three participants who won the best in tribal attire. The last part of the event was the Workshop Activity wherein they grouped themselves according to the shape they pick during the registration. Each group had a facilitator that also serves as the active leader of the group. After that, representatives of each group explained to the crowd about the outcome of their work. As to end the ASEAN youth forum, Mr. Argie Sarco the Director of Student Affairs and Services closed the program with his speech by thanking everyone for their active participation. He also expressed his gratitude to P.I.A. agency for choosing Basilan State College as the host school for the event.
